Valencia CF visited Getafe CF on Monday Night Football at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez at 9 pm kick-off time on Matchday 22 of LaLiga.
Valencia CF had a nervy start to the game. However, they enjoyed back-to-back efforts on target through Samuel Lino who saw his double chance keep out by David Soria on the ten-minute mark.
Valencia CF struggled to get a foothold in the game on the midway point of the first half at the Coliseum, with few and far between chances for either side.
Samuel Lino blazed the ball over the bar after capitalising on a ball bounce over Djene. Moments later, Valencia CF survived a scare at the back over the half-hour and minutes later, Giorgi Mamardashvili produced heroics with a stunning double save to keep the scoreline at 0-0.
The first half finished scoreless with all to play for in the second half.
The second half began at a high tempo at both ends with Valencia CF dictating play and Getafe trying to hit on the break in the early goings of the second half alas with the opposition enjoying the chances.
Valencia CF were forced into an injury substitution under the hour mark and Rubén Baraja made a like-for-like change at left-back with José Luis Gayà making way for Toni Lato.
Rubén Baraja made a double substitution with a little over 20 minutes plus stoppage time left to go Fran Pérez and Hugo Guillamón replacing Yunus Musah and Samuel Lino respectively.
Valencia CF kept on pushing for the winning goal from set-pieces and deadball situations.
Alas, Borja Mayoral made it 1-0 to Getafe CF in the closing stages of the game. The scoreline remained unchanged and Valencia CF fell to an away loss to Getafe CF.
